BSP- Halloween!

Yippee!!!! Halloween at the Brick Store! So one of my friends teased me and said she might go to the BSP Halloween party and i should go with. Well that planted a seed in my head and i really wanted to go. Usually Halloween is (1) on a school night or (2) arbitrarily placed on a weekend night for parties, but not really that night so it does not seem real. SO, here goes Halloween on a Saturday night and in a new house where we have tons of trick-or-treaters vs. my old house where no one came by.

Yippee!!! i got in the spirit of Halloween, bought some candy and treats, dressed up in a make-shift costume and gave out candy until the riff-raff from other neighborhoods starting infiltrating my 'hood. So i grabbed my umbrella again, because it was raining again... and walked it on up to the BSP. I had convinced melissa to meet me there for a drink and some food so she could get away from the barrage of trick or treaters at her house.

I have to say the BSP on Halloween is SO MUCH Fun! i will go there every year now! the costumes are GREAT the people are all in a good mood and well it is just the BSP. This time i ordered the Brunswick Stew which i love and have ordered many times before. I also got the pretzels and i don't think i have ever had those in the 8 years I've been here.

The stew was awesome... good as usual. the pretzels were a tad salty. Melissa loves salt and she could not even eat them. I had to scrape off the salt and eat the areas that were folded into creases. They were good, but i could do without the saltiness. YUm Yum...

of course Melissa had to leave in about 1 hour, so i stayed for a few minutes and talked to a few people. I love that everyone was in fun festive mood vs. the typical i hate you and everyone else Atlanta mood. I had fun... there was your typical drunk guy flirting with any girl that would give him attention. The highlight of the night was the guy in the all too believable devil costume. I did not stay for the contest, but i am sure he won some sort of prize.

Twains

It has been over a year or more since i have eaten at Twain's but i do like the restaurant and atmosphere! i just don't know why i don't go there as much as i go other places. There menu has changed every time i have been and alas the menu is different now vs. the last time i went. They used to have several choices and it seems the new menu has been narrowed down to the favorites and some new dishes.

Of course i had looked online at the menu before we went... a few times... and i wanted some of those fried green beans that they now offer. Yep, we sure can take something healthy and fry that puppy up and man are they good. They are served with some type of horseradish sauce that in my opinion could be creamer and thinner... it is a little thick... and have some more horseradish as you can barely taste it.

The burger... oh yeah, i got another one and got it with a side of the new garlic fries. The burger was yummmm good and really should go there before the next time i go to the BSP for the burger. The waitress refused to write down our order... 3 burgers all cooked different ways with different sides... and we knew she would mess something up. Of course she did, but it was a minor mistake and easily fixed. Well the burger was good but the garlic fries were a disappointment. They were clouted as being these wonderful garlicy fries tossed in butter and such. But they were basically some soggy fries with some garlic pieces scattered about. It is not often i don't eat what is on my plate, but i did not eat these fries. But the burger... that was gone. I sure did eat it all!

i loved the fried green beans, thin out the horseradish sauce... write down the order (it is ok, i would rather you write it than screw it up) and get rid of the garlic fries.

Disclaimer: i do love the BSP burger, but that seems to be the only burger in town i eat, so i am trying to branch out and find an equally good burger with a better bun.

the grange

Yes, i have eaten out several times since i last posted, but for some reason i cannot get in the habit of posting every time i eat out. Anyway, this was the 1st time i had eaten at the Grange since i heard about their impending name change on my favorite blog Decatur Metro blog. Nothing has changed about the restaurant. The menus were the same as was the sign and everything else bearing the name. In fact, no one was discussing it and I did not see any mention of the Change the name of the Grange contest.... Regardless... lets get to the food.

First i have to say it was a Friday afternoon/night and my friend with a 1.5 year old girl called and asked if i wanted to meet her there. Of course her means her, her husband and the most adorable 1.5 year old girl. I decided to put on the closest thing i have to a rain coat and grab my umbrella and brave the drizzling rain (that happens every day now) to walk up there. Since it has been raining for about 3 months now, i was longing to walk to town... so i braved it... Luckily it was not raining to hard and i made it just in time for our 5:30 date. Yes... 5:30... luckily on my way i called another friend to ask her to meet me for drinks at 6:30 since i knew we would be done by then.

I ordered the burger even though every time i go i say next time i am going to order the Guinness braised beef. But the burger was good and i have to say the BUN was TOASTED or grilled and stood up much better than that previously mentioned BSP burger bun. I was so excited for the toasted bun and the fries were good as well. I have to say, with all the hype about the BSP burger, i like the Grange burger just as well. I also must mention that while dining my friend's husband mentioned that he spoke to the owner the last time he was at the BSP and the bun is actually from Alon's. WELL WELL... hummm i do love some Alon's but i again say the bun is fine... by itself... but not with the burger, it needs some toasting.

Anyway, back to the Grange. The food is good, the service is good and the bun is toasted. I often forget about eating there and unfortunately have not branched out too far from the burger. Naturally i was right and we were done by 6:30... after many laps around the restaurant by the above mentioned toddler.

Since i was slightly buzzed due to the drinks on an empty stomach before the food arrived and the lack of eating due to the action of the toddler, i just could not go home. Luckily there was a nice fall festival being held at the wonderful shop Heliotrope, just a few more steps up Ponce. They had Cotton Candy, candied apples, popcorn and a SALE. I did what i have sworn many times i would not do... SHOP while DRUNK... i do not recommend it! But i did buy a necklace i have been eyeing for months! and i don't regret it!
